Description: Enterasys Networks proprietary Extended Switch MIB for rate limiting, filtering, and access point switch parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ENTERASYS-ESWITCH-MIB?

ENTERASYS-ESWITCH-MIB is a proprietary MIB from Enterasys Networks (later Extreme Networks) covering Extended Switch Objects, in the enterprise LAN switching technology area. It extends standard bridge/switch capability with EtherType-based frame filtering and protocol-based port/VLAN classification, exposing configuration tables for both. It is used primarily to monitor the operational status of Layer 2 traffic-classification rules — for instance, whether an EtherType filter entry is active or has been preempted, and how protocols are mapped to receiving ports — rather than physical hardware sensors, making it a software/configuration-integrity monitoring tool. It builds conceptually on standard 802-series bridging concepts akin to RFC 1493's bridge MIB. It is typically deployed on Enterasys/Extreme Networks enterprise switches that support extended EtherType filtering and protocol-based VLAN classification. Engineers can download the ENTERASYS-ESWITCH-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-ESWITCH-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys/Extreme Networks enterprise switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll etsysESwitchEtherTypeTable (via etsysESwitchEtherTypeEntry/etsysESwitchEtherTypeIndex) to confirm each configured etsysESwitchEtherTypeValue's etsysESwitchEtherTypeStatus remains active and check etsysESwitchEtherTypePreempted to see if a higher-priority rule has overridden it. Similarly, polling etsysESwitchProtocolTable's etsysESwitchProtocolReceivePort and etsysESwitchProtocolType would reveal whether a port's protocol-based VLAN classification still matches intended provisioning, flagging accidental rule preemption or removal.

What Can Be Monitored

  • EtherType filter rule status
  • EtherType filter preemption state
  • protocol-based VLAN classification per port
  • configured EtherType values
