Description: Enterasys Networks MIB for configuring DNS resolver settings including server addresses and query timeouts.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ENTERASYS-DNS-RESOLVER-MIB?

ENTERASYS-DNS-RESOLVER-MIB is a proprietary Enterasys Networks MIB for configuring the DNS resolver settings used by the device itself, including domain name and up to four DNS server addresses across IPv4 and IPv6. It exposes purely configuration-oriented objects rather than runtime traffic or hardware data. Its monitoring usefulness is limited to configuration verification: an administrator can confirm the device's configured primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary DNS servers and domain name are correct, which matters for troubleshooting name-resolution failures affecting other device services (e.g., NTP, syslog, RADIUS by hostname) rather than for tracking hardware or performance health. It is a vendor-specific configuration MIB with no dependency on a standard DNS-client MIB. It is deployed on Enterasys/Extreme Networks switches and routers that resolve hostnames for management or logging purposes, and administrators can download the ENTERASYS-DNS-RESOLVER-MIB file to load into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ENTERASYS-DNS-RESOLVER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Enterasys/Extreme Networks switch or router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator troubleshooting a device that cannot reach a syslog or RADIUS server by hostname would poll etsysDnsResolverPrimaryServerAddrType/etsysDnsResolverPrimaryServerAddr and the secondary/tertiary/quaternary equivalents to confirm the correct DNS servers are configured, and check etsysDnsResolverDomainName to verify the search domain matches expectations. etsysDnsResolverIpv4DnsZone and etsysDnsResolverIpv6DnsZone would be checked when diagnosing dual-stack resolution issues. This MIB is a static configuration table with no live query-performance counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • configured DNS server addresses (primary through quaternary)
  • domain name
  • IPv4/IPv6 DNS zone configuration
