What Is ELTEX-MES?
ELTEX-MES is the top-level enterprise MIB module for Eltex Corporation's MES series of managed Ethernet switches, establishing the OID hierarchy under which all other MES-specific MIB modules register their objects. It is primarily a structural namespace MIB rather than a data-bearing one, defining branches for device management, device parameters, configuration copy operations, and IP routing extensions (OSPF MTU, BFD, unnumbered interfaces) that are populated by sibling MIBs. In practice it underpins monitoring of hardware and software status on Eltex switches by providing the registration point for device parameter groups, configuration backup/restore (copy) operations, and IP routing protocol extensions used in health and reachability checks. Because it is enterprise-specific, it has no formal dependency beyond the standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions used to build enterprise MIB trees, though the routing sub-branches imply reliance on OSPF and BFD concepts from IETF standards. It is typically deployed by ISPs and enterprises using Eltex MES switches at the access or aggregation layer, where an NMS loads this MIB first so the more detailed sub-MIBs registered beneath it resolve and poll correctly. Engineers performing an ELTEX-MES download typically need the accompanying sibling MIBs as well, since this root module alone defines only the namespace and registration points, not the data objects.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- device parameter status
- configuration copy/backup job state
- OSPF interface MTU
- BFD session state
- unnumbered interface configuration
Supported Devices
- Eltex MES5320-24 (2024) — data center switch, 24x25G SFP28 + 2x100G QSFP28, 1.6 Tbps
- Eltex MES3500I-24F (2025) — industrial-grade managed switch, 20x1G SFP + 4x10G SFP+ uplinks
Monitoring Examples
This module itself exposes structural nodes like eltMesMng, eltMesDevParams, and eltMesCopy rather than leaf counters, so an admin would not poll it directly for values but would rely on it to properly compile and register the vendor's fuller device MIBs beneath eltMesDevParams. The eltMesIpOspfMtu, eltMesIpBfd, and eltMesIpUnnumbered branches suggest companion objects for monitoring OSPF interface MTU settings, BFD session state, and unnumbered interface configuration, which would reveal routing adjacency flaps or MTU-mismatch packet drops if polled through the associated tables. The eltMesCopy branch implies objects for tracking configuration copy/backup job status, useful for confirming a scheduled configuration backup completed successfully.
