Last Updated: 2013-01-28
Category: Vendor: Eltex
Description: Monitors unidirectional link detection (ULD) on Eltex switches to identify and report one-way link failures.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ELTEX-ULD-MIB?
ELTEX-ULD-MIB is a proprietary Eltex Networks MIB implementing Unidirectional Link Detection (ULD), a feature comparable to Cisco's UDLD, on Eltex switches. It exposes management configuration objects and notification (trap) definitions used to detect links where traffic is flowing correctly in only one direction, a failure mode that ordinary link-state (up/down) monitoring cannot catch. Its central monitoring value is fault detection: it lets an administrator be alerted via SNMP traps when a port has been placed into an error/blocking state because ULD detected a one-way link, helping avoid the bridging loops or blackholed traffic such faults cause. It does not build on any standard IETF MIB, being an Eltex-specific enterprise extension. It is deployed on Eltex switch fabrics, particularly in ring or redundant-link topologies where undetected unidirectional links can cause spanning-tree or loop-prevention failures. Engineers can download the ELTEX-ULD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-ULD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eltex switch (Ethernet/aggregation)
Monitoring Examples
A monitoring system can subscribe to eltexULDNotifications to receive a trap the moment ULD flags a port as unidirectional, and then query objects under eltexULDMgmt to see the per-port ULD enable state and current detected status. This lets an operator quickly correlate an unexpected loss of connectivity or a spanning-tree topology change with a specific port that ULD has shut down for one-way traffic. The MIB is oriented around this notification-driven fault workflow rather than continuous performance counters.
What Can Be Monitored
- unidirectional link detection status
- ULD trap notifications
- per-port ULD management state
