Description: Eltex MAC notification MIB for generating SNMP traps on MAC address table add/remove events on Eltex switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ELTEX-MAC-NOTIFICATION-MIB?

ELTEX-MAC-NOTIFICATION-MIB is an Eltex-specific MIB that configures the MAC address notification feature on Eltex switches, generating SNMP traps when MAC addresses are learned, removed, or detected 'flapping' rapidly between ports. It exposes feature enable/disable flags plus detailed flapping-event data: the offending MAC address, VLAN, the first and second ports involved, and the time of the flap. Rather than hardware sensor data, its monitoring value is network/software-layer fault detection: a MAC-flapping notification typically indicates a Layer 2 loop, a duplicate MAC address, or a misconfigured link aggregation, all important operational-health signals for a switch. It is a self-contained vendor MIB but conceptually parallels the standard SNMPv2 notification framework and BRIDGE-MIB for L2 topology context. It is deployed on Eltex Ethernet switches in service-provider or enterprise access networks where rapid MAC-movement detection helps catch loops or spoofing early. Engineers can download the ELTEX-MAC-NOTIFICATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MAC-NOTIFICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eltex Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

An NMS subscribed to eltexMnNotifications receives a trap when eltexMnFlappingNotificationsEnabled is set and a MAC flap is detected, with eltexMnFlappingAddress, eltexMnFlappingVlanNumber, eltexMnFlappingFirstPortId, and eltexMnFlappingSecondPortId identifying exactly which MAC, VLAN, and port pair are involved. If the same MAC address keeps flapping between two specific ports within a short eltexMnFlappingTime window, that reveals a Layer 2 loop or misconfigured redundant link rather than a hardware fault. Toggling eltexMnFlappingFeatureEnabled lets an admin turn this detection on or off per switch as needed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC address flapping events
  • flapping VLAN and port pair
  • MAC notification feature enable status
  • flap event timestamp
