What Is ELTEX-MES-IP?
ELTEX-MES-IP is an Eltex vendor module covering IP-layer management for the MES (Metro Ethernet Switch) product line, addressing IP interface configuration, OSPF routing parameters, ICMP behavior, and ARP settings. It exposes objects controlling and reporting ICMP packet handling (including whether ICMP destination-unreachable messages are sent), OSPF-related IP configuration, and ARP specification parameters. Its monitoring value lies in software/configuration status of the IP stack — whether ICMP unreachable generation is enabled, how ARP is behaving, and OSPF-related IP settings — which helps diagnose connectivity issues like silently dropped traceroutes/path-MTU-discovery failures caused by disabled ICMP unreachables. It complements the standard IP-MIB and OSPF-MIB by adding Eltex-specific IP-layer controls on top of them, and ELTEX-MES-IP SNMP polling of these objects is typically scheduled alongside standard interface counters to build a complete picture of the switch's IP-layer health. It is deployed on Eltex MES switches used in metro Ethernet and access-network environments.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ELTEX-MES-IP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- ICMP unreachable message sending
- ICMP packet statistics
- OSPF-related IP configuration
- ARP configuration parameters
Supported Devices
- Eltex MES3300-48 — current-generation aggregation switch with advanced IP routing capabilities, part of the active MES portfolio
Monitoring Examples
An admin would check eltIpIcmpPacketUnreachableSendEnable in eltIpIcmpPacketTable/eltIpIcmpPacketEntry to confirm whether ICMP destination-unreachable messages are enabled on an interface, since a disabled setting can silently break path MTU discovery for end users. They would also review eltMesOspf and eltMesArpSpec settings to verify OSPF IP configuration and ARP behavior are as expected on the switch.
