Category: Vendor: Eicon Technology
Description: Eicon Technology trace MIB providing diagnostic trace and logging management for Eicon WAN protocol stacks.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is EICON-MIB-TRACE?
EICON-MIB-TRACE is a companion vendor-specific MIB from Eicon Technology that manages protocol trace and diagnostic logging sessions on Eicon WAN cards/protocol stacks rather than exposing steady-state performance counters. It provides a trace control table where each entry configures which protocol to trace, an on/off state, an owner, a reclaim timer, and the output trace file name. Its monitoring role is operational/software-status oriented: traceCntrlActionState and traceCntrlActionError reveal whether a requested trace operation succeeded or failed, and traceCntrlEntryStatus/traceCntrlOnOff indicate whether a diagnostic session is genuinely active before an operator assumes a fault has been captured. Like EICON-MIB-CARD, it is a self-contained proprietary MIB without dependence on external standard MIBs. It is deployed on the same Eicon WAN gateway/remote access hardware as EICON-MIB-CARD, used by support staff for remote protocol-level troubleshooting. Engineers can download the EICON-MIB-TRACE file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EICON-MIB-TRACE. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eicon Technology WAN adapter cards
- Eicon ISDN/WAN communications servers
Monitoring Examples
A support engineer creates an entry in traceControlTable (indexed by traceCntrlIndex), sets traceCntrlProtocol and traceCntrlOnOff to start a capture, then polls traceCntrlActionState/traceCntrlActionError to confirm the trace actually started rather than failing on a busy card. traceCntrlFileName is checked to locate the resulting trace file, and traceCntrlEntryReclaimTime shows when an idle trace session will be automatically torn down. traceFreeEntryIndex is monitored to see if the trace table is near capacity before provisioning a new session.
What Can Be Monitored
- active trace session state
- trace start/stop action results and errors
- protocol being traced
- trace session owner and reclaim timer
- trace output file name
- free trace table slots
