What Is EICON-MIB-PORT?
EICON-MIB-PORT is a vendor MIB from Eicon Technology (a manufacturer of WAN communications adapters and ISDN/leased-line interface cards, later part of Dialogic) that manages individual physical WAN ports on Eicon adapters. It focuses on port-level configuration and operational data: port identification (LANA number, card location, descriptive name), the set of supported line protocols, and the port's administrative and operational state. Its main use for hardware/software status monitoring is tracking portOperState against portAdminStateCtr to detect a WAN port that has failed to come up or dropped from service, along with portOpenTime to see how long a port has been active since its last state change. It is a self-contained vendor MIB with no strong stated dependency on other standard MIBs beyond general SNMPv2 SMI conventions. The EICON-MIB-PORT MIB is typically deployed on Eicon WAN adapter cards installed in servers or communications gateways providing leased-line, ISDN, or frame relay connectivity.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EICON-MIB-PORT. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Eicon Technology WAN communications adapter cards (ISDN/leased-line/frame relay)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll portTable/portEntry across all portIndex values, comparing portOperState to portAdminStateCtr to spot a port that is administratively enabled but operationally down — indicating a line fault or cabling issue on that specific WAN port. portOpenTime dropping to a small value unexpectedly would reveal that a port has recently reset, and portProtocols confirms which line protocol (e.g. frame relay, PPP) is configured on that port.
What Can Be Monitored
- port operational state
- port administrative state
- port open time
- port protocol configuration
- port card location/identity
