What Is EATON-PDU-MIB?

EATON-PDU-MIB is an Eaton private MIB for managing and monitoring Eaton power distribution units (PDUs), covering electrical ratings, input power measurement, and organizational structure of PDU panels. It exposes nameplate/rating data (VA rating, nominal output voltage, number of phases and panels, frequency) alongside real-time input power measurements including input VA, input power, power factor, ground current, and per-phase input voltage/current via the pduInputTable. Its monitoring purpose is squarely hardware power status: ground current monitoring can reveal a wiring or insulation fault, power factor and input power/VA readings show electrical load and efficiency, and per-phase input table values let an admin detect an imbalanced or overloaded phase before it causes a trip or damage. This is a standalone Eaton vendor MIB but shares structural concepts with Eaton's other PDU-family modules (e.g. EATON-EPDU-PU-MI-MIB). It is deployed in data centers and equipment racks on Eaton PDUs, polled by DCIM or facilities monitoring systems for power capacity and fault management, with EATON-PDU-MIB SNMP monitoring surfacing ground-current and per-phase load data before an overload or fault occurs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in EATON-PDU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Eaton PDU (power distribution unit)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk pduInputTable to read per-phase/per-input pduInputVoltageUnits, along with pduInputVA, pduInputPower, and pduInputPowerFactor, comparing them against the nameplate pduRatingVA and pduNominalOutputVoltage. A rising pduGroundCurrent reading would signal a possible ground fault or wiring insulation problem, while an input phase's VA approaching the pduRatingVA ceiling (checked against pduNumPhases/pduNumPanels for the panel in question) would warn of an imminent overload on that pduPanel.

What Can Be Monitored

  • input voltage/current per phase
  • input VA/power/power factor
  • ground current
  • PDU rating/capacity vs. load
  • number of phases/panels

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using pduInputPowerFactor OID:

Select an Eaton PDU (power distribution unit) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type pduInputPowerFactor into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The input power factor for the full PDU system. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an Integer32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value drifts significantly from its normal baseline, since an unexpected change often points to a real underlying issue. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
