Category: Routing Protocols, SNA and Legacy Protocols

Description: Defines MIB extensions for managing DECnet Phase IV network devices, covering routing, circuit management, session layer, and protocol-specific counters.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring DECNET-PHIV-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is DECNET-PHIV-MIB?

DECNET-PHIV-MIB is a legacy Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) proprietary MIB for DECnet Phase IV network node management. Its objects cover executor-node operational state (ON/OFF/SHUT/RESTRICTED), executor identification, management-protocol version, session-layer system name and in/out timers, a remote-node table (host node ID, state, circuit index, active links, delay), and a per-remote-node counters table (seconds-since-last-zeroed, user/total bytes and messages received/sent). As a configuration/performance MIB it lets an administrator confirm a DECnet node's operational state and watch per-remote-node traffic counters. It is deployed on legacy DEC systems/routers running DECnet Phase IV. Engineers can download the DECNET-PHIV-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DECNET-PHIV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Legacy DEC systems/routers (DECnet Phase IV)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks phivSystemState to confirm a DECnet node is in the ON operational state (allowing logical links) before troubleshooting a connectivity issue on legacy DEC equipment.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DECnet node operational state and per-remote-node traffic counters
