Description: Manages Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) data for optical transceiver modules.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DDM-MGMT-MIB?

DDM-MGMT-MIB is a switch-vendor enterprise MIB implementing Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for pluggable optical transceiver modules (SFP/SFP+), a capability standardized at the transceiver hardware level (SFF-8472) and exposed here via SNMP. It provides per-port transceiver status including temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, and transmit/receive optical power, plus a threshold management table for setting alarm/warning limits. It is a pure hardware-health monitoring MIB, letting administrators detect an overheating, under-powered, or degrading optical module — e.g. rising bias current or falling RX power signaling laser aging or a failing fiber connection — well before the link actually drops. It is a proprietary encoding of the industry-standard SFF-8472 DDM data model and is typically deployed alongside standard IF-MIB interface counters. Typical deployment is a managed Ethernet switch with SFP/SFP+ uplinks where each port's optical transceiver health is tracked for proactive fiber and optics maintenance. Engineers can download the DDM-MGMT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DDM-MGMT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • managed Ethernet switch with SFP/SFP+ optical ports

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll swDdmStatusTable/swDdmStatusEntry per swDdmPort for swDdmTemperature, swDdmVoltage, swDdmBiasCurrent, swDdmTxPower, and swDdmRxPower to baseline each transceiver's operating envelope. Comparing current readings against limits set in swDdmThresholdMgmtTable/swDdmThresholdMgmtEntry, with swDdmTrapState/swDdmLogState enabled, would surface an SFP whose swDdmRxPower has dropped below threshold — indicating fiber attenuation or a failing transceiver — well before the interface itself reports down.

What Can Be Monitored

  • transceiver temperature
  • transceiver voltage
  • laser bias current
  • TX optical power
  • RX optical power
  • DDM alarm/warning thresholds
