Category: Routing Protocols, Vendor: Aastra

Description: Manages Aastra/ConvertedX IPX routing protocol configuration, SAP table entries, and Novell network parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CX-IPX-MIB?

CX-IPX-MIB is a vendor MIB from the Memotec/Aastra ConvertedX (CX) product line for managing Novell IPX routing protocol configuration and statistics on WAN/access equipment. It exposes IPX statistics tables tracking packet counts and routing activity, along with SAP (Service Advertising Protocol) table entries used for Novell network service discovery across routed links. As a routing-protocol MIB it is used more for traffic/performance monitoring than hardware health, but sustained drops in IPX statistics or SAP table entries can indicate a failed WAN link or a misbehaving IPX routing process on the device. It depends on the vendor's underlying interface/link MIBs (such as CXTokenBus-MIB or serial interface MIBs) for the physical/logical interfaces the IPX protocol runs over. It was deployed on Memotec/Aastra CX-series multiprotocol WAN access devices used in legacy Novell NetWare enterprise networks. Engineers can download the CX-IPX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CX-IPX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Memotec/Aastra CX-series WAN access device

Monitoring Examples

An operator can poll ipxStatsTable to track IPX packet counters per interface, watching for a sudden drop to zero that would indicate the IPX routing process has stopped forwarding traffic on that link. Correlating ipxStatsTable entries with SAP table activity helps confirm that Novell servers and services remain visible across the WAN after a topology change. A steady decline in ipxStatsTable counts alongside stable IP traffic on the same device would isolate the problem specifically to the legacy IPX stack rather than the underlying WAN link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IPX packet statistics
  • IPX routing activity
  • SAP table entries
  • per-interface IPX traffic counts
