Description: Configures traffic priority classification rules based on layer 2/3/4 fields on Cabletron/Enterasys platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-PRIORITY-CLASSIFY-MIB?

CTRON-PRIORITY-CLASSIFY-MIB is a Cabletron/Enterasys MIB for configuring traffic priority classification (QoS) rules that match packets based on Layer 2, 3, or 4 header fields and assign them a priority level. It exposes a rules table where each entry defines match criteria (a data value/mask against a specified field), an assigned priority, and the ingress port list the rule applies to, along with counts of configured versus maximum entries. This is primarily a configuration/policy MIB whose monitoring value comes from verifying QoS classification rules are correctly provisioned and active (row status) and that entry-count limits aren't being exceeded, which affects switch forwarding behavior. It follows standard Cabletron/Enterasys RowStatus-based table conventions and is typically used alongside other Cabletron QoS/priority MIBs. It is deployed on Cabletron/Enterasys switches in networks requiring granular traffic prioritization for voice/video or business-critical applications. Engineers can download the CTRON-PRIORITY-CLASSIFY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-PRIORITY-CLASSIFY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would inspect ctPriClassifyTable/ctPriClassifyEntry rows to verify each rule's ctPriClassifyDataMeaning, ctPriClassifyDataVal, and ctPriClassifyDataMask correctly match the intended traffic, and confirm the assigned ctPriClassifyPriority matches policy. Checking ctPriClassifyNumEntries against ctPriClassifyMaxEntries reveals whether the classification table is nearing capacity, which would block new QoS rules from being added. ctPriClassifyRowStatus for each entry confirms whether a rule is active, notReady, or failed to apply, helping diagnose why expected traffic prioritization isn't taking effect.

What Can Be Monitored

  • priority classification rule table
  • match criteria (field/value/mask)
  • assigned priority per rule
  • rule table entry count vs. max
  • rule row status (active/inactive)
