Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Monitors Cabletron WAN line statistics including bit errors, frame errors, and line utilization counters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-LINE-STATISTICS-MIB?

CTRON-LINE-STATISTICS-MIB is a Cabletron Systems enterprise MIB that monitors WAN line-level statistics on Cabletron networking equipment, specifically for T1/E1-style DS1 (Dsx1) lines. It exposes a ctDsx1LineStatisticsTable of per-line error and alarm counters, including layer-1 up/down transition counts and specific line-fault indicators such as Loss of Signal (LOS), Loss of Frame (LOF), Remote Alarm Indication (RAI), and Alarm Indication Signal (AIS), plus aggregate "All" variants of these counters. Its purpose is squarely hardware-status/fault monitoring for WAN circuits: rising LOS, LOF, or AIS counts on a given line directly indicate a failing physical WAN link, cabling problem, or upstream carrier issue, functioning as an early-warning system for circuit degradation. It parallels concepts found in the standard DS1/E1 MIB family but implements them as a Cabletron-specific statistics extension. It was typically deployed on Cabletron WAN routers/switches with T1/E1 line cards in enterprise or carrier-edge networks. Engineers can download the CTRON-LINE-STATISTICS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-LINE-STATISTICS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron Systems WAN router/switch with T1/E1 (DS1) line cards

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ctDsx1LineStatisticsTable, indexed by lsLineIndex, and watch lsLayer1LOS, lsLayer1LOF, lsLayer1RAI, and lsLayer1AIS counters alongside lsLayer1Up/lsLayer1Down transition counts for each DS1 line. A sudden jump in lsLayer1LOSAll or lsLayer1LOFAll across multiple lines would point to a carrier-side outage or failed line card, while an isolated line's rising AIS count would suggest a fault further upstream on that specific circuit.

What Can Be Monitored

  • line up/down transitions
  • loss of signal (LOS) count
  • loss of frame (LOF) count
  • remote alarm indication (RAI) count
  • alarm indication signal (AIS) count
