Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys
Description: Manages Cabletron port mapping tables that associate physical ports to logical entities and VLAN memberships.

What Is CTRON-PORTMAP-MIB?
CTRON-PORTMAP-MIB is a legacy vendor-specific MIB from Cabletron Systems (enterprise OID cabletron, enterprises 52) that models the mapping between physical repeater ports and the repeater unit they belong to on Cabletron hub/repeater hardware. It exposes a single portMapTable keyed by portMapIndex, with portMapRepeater identifying the parent repeater, portMapCapability and portMapOperationalMode as bitmask fields describing supported and currently negotiated speed/duplex technologies (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE, Auto-Negotiation), and portMapLastSeenSrcAddr recording the last source MAC address observed on the port. This gives an operator a compact, hardware-oriented view of port-to-repeater topology and negotiated link technology without needing a full bridge/interface MIB implementation. As an RFC-1212-era MIB with no textual conventions or notifications, it predates SNMPv2 tooling and is typically found alongside other legacy CTRON-*-MIB modules on older Cabletron repeater/hub products. Engineers maintaining archived Cabletron equipment can download the CTRON-PORTMAP-MIB file for their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-PORTMAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron legacy repeater/hub hardware
Monitoring Examples
An operator walks portMapTable to read portMapRepeater and portMapOperationalMode for each port, comparing the negotiated technology bit against portMapCapability; a port whose portMapOperationalMode falls back to a lower value than its advertised capability, or whose portMapLastSeenSrcAddr suddenly changes, would flag an auto-negotiation mismatch or an unexpected device relocation on that repeater port.
What Can Be Monitored
- port-to-repeater mapping
- port technology capability bitmask
- negotiated operational mode bitmask
- last-seen source MAC address per port
