Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CT-PIC-MIB?

CT-PIC-MIB is a Cabletron/Enterasys vendor MIB for managing Port Interface Cards (PICs), the physical port/media modules that plug into slots on Cabletron chassis-based networking equipment, covering hardware configuration, port assignments, and physical inventory. It exposes a per-card table describing each PIC's chassis slot and index, its physical location, operational status, firmware/hardware version, module type, and manufacturing details such as part number and serial number. Its monitoring value is squarely hardware inventory and status: ctPicStatus reveals whether an installed card is operating normally, failed, or missing, while ctPicVersion and the manufacturing identifiers (ctPicMfgPN, ctPicMfgSN) support asset tracking and firmware-compatibility checks, and ctPicModuleType identifies what kind of interface card occupies each slot. The module's revision history notes added vendor-ID enumerations for Newbridge and Enterasys, reflecting shared lineage across those related product lines, but it has no dependency on external IETF MIBs beyond standard SMI conventions. It is deployed on modular Cabletron/Enterasys chassis switches or routers where individual line cards need to be inventoried and health-checked. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CT-PIC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CT-PIC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron/Enterasys modular chassis switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk ctPicTable/ctPicEntry, indexed by ctPicSlot and ctPicIndex, to check ctPicStatus for every installed card and quickly spot a PIC that has failed or been removed. ctPicLocation and ctPicLocationModule would be used to physically locate a faulted card in the chassis, while ctPicMfgSN and ctPicMfgPN would be pulled for asset records or RMA processing, and ctPicVersion checked to confirm firmware consistency across cards before a software upgrade. ctPicNumberEntries gives a quick count of installed PICs to detect if an expected card is missing entirely.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PIC operational status
  • PIC slot/location
  • PIC firmware/hardware version
  • PIC module type
  • manufacturing serial/part number
  • installed PIC count
