Category: Fibre Channel and Storage, Hardware and Environment, Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Monitors HP StorageWorks SAN application status, storage array connections, and management agent health.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CPQSANAPP-MIB?

CPQSANAPP-MIB is a Compaq/HP vendor MIB for the StorageWorks SAN management application layer, monitoring the health of the management agent itself as well as the storage array connections and system-level events it tracks. It exposes objects identifying the managed storage system, its type, and event records describing failures or notable occurrences reported by the SAN management software. Its monitoring value lies in software/service and fault status: swFailure and swEventName-style objects surface application-detected failures on the storage system, while swSystemName/swSystemType identify which array the event pertains to, giving administrators a software-level view of SAN health beyond raw hardware counters. It works in conjunction with the array-specific HSV-series MIBs (HSV340/360/400) which provide the underlying controller and disk detail behind these application-level events. It is deployed wherever HP StorageWorks SAN management software runs to supervise one or more array controllers. Engineers can download the CPQSANAPP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CPQSANAPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP StorageWorks SAN array with management appliance/agent

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would monitor swFailure alongside swEventName and swSequence to catch and correlate a sequence of failure events reported against a given swSystemName/swSystemType, helping pinpoint which SAN array experienced a fault. The resourceMonitor branch would be checked to confirm the SAN management agent itself remains responsive and is actively polling its managed arrays. A gap in expected sequence numbers or a burst of swFailure events would indicate either an array problem or a management agent connectivity issue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • storage system identity/type
  • failure event occurrences
  • event sequence continuity
  • management agent/resource monitor health
