Category: Hardware and Environment, Vendor: Dell

Description: Manages Dell server baseboard hardware inventory and component status via MIF data.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is DELLBASEBOARDMIF-MIB?

DELLBASEBOARDMIF-MIB is a Dell proprietary MIB module (derived from DMTF MIF/DMI baseboard data) that manages hardware inventory and status information for the baseboard (system board) component of Dell servers. It belongs to Dell's server management MIB family and exposes component identification data such as manufacturer, product name, hardware version, and serial number, alongside installation and verification status flags and baseboard temperature readings. This is squarely a hardware-monitoring MIB: it lets an administrator confirm baseboard component identity/inventory and check for installation faults, verification failures, or abnormal temperature on the system board, directly supporting hardware health monitoring. It reflects underlying DMTF MIF (Management Information Format) conventions in its object naming (a1/a2/tComponentid style indexing), tying it conceptually to the broader DMI/MIF standard. It is deployed on Dell PowerEdge and similar rack/tower servers as part of out-of-band or agent-based hardware health monitoring, and administrators can download the DELLBASEBOARDMIF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DELLBASEBOARDMIF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell servers (baseboard/system board component)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll a1Manufacturer, a1Product, a1Version, and a1SerialNumber to confirm baseboard identity/inventory, and check a1Installation and a1Verify to detect a baseboard that failed installation verification. eTemperature/tTemperature (with a2Tempparentindex linking readings to the parent component) would be polled to watch for baseboard temperature exceeding a safe threshold, indicating a cooling problem. A verify-status failure combined with an elevated temperature reading would strongly suggest a failing or improperly seated system board.

What Can Be Monitored

  • baseboard manufacturer/product/version/serial number
  • installation status
  • verification status
  • baseboard temperature
  • component inventory by index
