Category: Hardware and Environment, Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Manages Compaq/HP server appliance system status, firmware, and subsystem health objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CPQAPPLIANCE-MIB?

CPQAPPLIANCE-MIB is a Compaq (later HP) vendor MIB for server appliance products, exposing system-level status, firmware version, and subsystem health information consistent with the broader Compaq/HP Insight Management Agent family of MIBs. It covers general appliance health categories such as overall system status, firmware/software version identification, and the condition of key subsystems like power supplies, fans, and other internal components. This MIB is squarely focused on hardware and software status monitoring: it's the kind of module an operator polls to catch a failed fan, a degraded power supply, or a firmware mismatch before it leads to a service-affecting appliance failure. It follows the same conventions used across other Compaq/HP hardware-health MIBs (such as the broader CPQHOST/Insight Manager MIB family), even though it is not a formal IETF standard. It is deployed on Compaq/HP server appliances, such as NAS or thin server appliance products, in environments using Compaq Insight Manager-style monitoring. Engineers can download the CPQAPPLIANCE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CPQAPPLIANCE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Compaq/HP server appliances (e.g., NAS/thin server appliance products)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the appliance's overall system-status object to get a single health summary, then drill into subsystem-level objects for power supply and fan status if that summary indicates a problem. Checking the firmware-version object lets the admin confirm all appliances in a fleet are running a consistent, supported firmware release, flagging any unit that's fallen behind during a patch rollout.

What Can Be Monitored

  • firmware/software version
  • power supply health
