Description: Manages controller-level Wireless Distribution System mesh topology on Colubris/HP WLAN systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is COLUBRIS-WDS-MIB?

The COLUBRIS-WDS-MIB is a vendor MIB for Colubris Networks wireless LAN controllers (later acquired by HP, forming the basis of the HP MSM series), covering the Wireless Distribution System (WDS) mesh networking feature. It exposes configuration and status data for WDS radio links and WDS groups, including group membership, group naming, and per-radio mesh parameters such as acknowledgment distance and QoS settings. It is used to monitor the operational health of the mesh topology - checking whether WDS groups are properly formed via coWDSGroupState and how many groups/radios are active - functioning as an operational status check for the wireless mesh rather than classic hardware sensors like temperature or CPU load. It has no notable dependency on other MIBs beyond standard SNMP SMI conventions. It's typically deployed in enterprise or campus wireless network management systems monitoring Colubris/HP MSM wireless mesh access point deployments. Engineers can download the COLUBRIS-WDS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-WDS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Colubris/HP MSM series wireless LAN controllers
  • wireless mesh access points

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls coWDSGroupTable/coWDSGroupEntry indexed by coWDSGroupIndex to read coWDSGroupName and coWDSGroupState for each configured mesh group, quickly spotting a group that has dropped out of its expected operational state. The coWDSRadioTable lets them check coWDSRadioAckDistance (mesh link distance tuning) and coWDSRadioQoS per coWDSRadioIndex, revealing a radio misconfigured for its physical link distance, which shows up as poor mesh throughput. coWDSNumberOfGroup gives a quick sanity count against the expected topology.

What Can Be Monitored

  • WDS group state
  • WDS group membership
  • number of WDS groups
  • radio acknowledgment distance
  • radio QoS setting
