Description: Manages RS-485 serial interface configuration for console and out-of-band management on HP/Comware devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-RS485-MIB?

HPN-ICF-RS485-MIB is an HP/H3C Comware ("hpnicf") private MIB for managing RS-485 serial interfaces used for console or out-of-band device management, and for tracking active sessions on those interfaces. It exposes configuration objects such as baud rate, data bits, parity, stop bits, and flow control per RS-485 port, alongside runtime counters for transmitted/received characters and transmit/receive error characters, plus a raw-session summary and index table. Its monitoring value lies in serial-link software/hardware status -- confirming the RS-485 port is configured with matching serial parameters at both ends, and using rising TX/RX error-character counts to detect a cabling or configuration mismatch on an out-of-band management link. It is a vendor-specific HP/H3C Comware MIB with no evident dependency on a standard RS-232/RS-485 IETF MIB. It is deployed on HP Comware-based switches/routers that provide RS-485 serial ports for console access or serial device connectivity in industrial or telecom environments. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-RS485-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-RS485-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware switches (RS-485 serial interface)

Monitoring Examples

Polling hpnicfRS485PropertiesTable/hpnicfRS485PropertiesEntry for hpnicfRS485BaudRate, hpnicfRS485DataBits, hpnicfRS485Parity, and hpnicfRS485StopBits confirms both ends of an RS-485 link are configured identically, since a mismatch here is a common cause of garbled serial communication. Rising hpnicfRS485TXErrCharacters or hpnicfRS485RXErrCharacters relative to hpnicfRS485TXCharacters/hpnicfRS485RXCharacters would indicate a wiring, grounding, or baud-rate mismatch problem on the serial link. hpnicfRS485RawSessionSummary and hpnicfRS485RawSessionNextIndex let an operator see how many raw serial sessions are currently active on the device.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RS-485 serial configuration (baud rate, parity, stop bits, flow control)
  • transmitted/received character counts
  • transmit/receive error character counts
  • active raw serial sessions
