Category: Vendor: HP/HPE, Wireless and WLAN
Description: Manages virtual AP (VAP/SSID) configuration and per-SSID statistics on Colubris/HP wireless devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is COLUBRIS-VIRTUAL-AP-MIB?
COLUBRIS-VIRTUAL-AP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB originally from Colubris Networks (later acquired by HP) for configuring and monitoring virtual access points (VAPs), i.e., multiple SSIDs hosted on a single wireless access point radio. It exposes per-VAP configuration data such as SSID name, broadcast setting, maximum user count, default VLAN, security/authentication mode, and accounting profile association. Its monitoring value is mainly configuration/software-state visibility: confirming which SSIDs are active, how many users each VAP allows, and which authentication/accounting profile governs each virtual AP, which is useful for auditing wireless policy compliance. It depends conceptually on the device's WLAN profile indexing and authentication/accounting profile tables defined elsewhere in the Colubris MIB suite. It is deployed on Colubris/HP wireless access points offering multi-SSID virtual AP functionality, and administrators auditing these deployments can obtain a COLUBRIS-VIRTUAL-AP-MIB download to load into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-VIRTUAL-AP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Colubris/HP wireless access points
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll coVirtualAccessPointConfigTable/coVirtualAccessPointConfigEntry rows indexed by coVirtualApWlanProfileIndex to check coVirtualApSSID, coVirtualApBroadcastSSID, and coVirtualApMaximumNumberOfUsers for each configured virtual AP. Reviewing coVirtualApSecurity, coVirtualApAuthenMode, and coVirtualApAuthenProfileIndex confirms whether a given SSID enforces the intended authentication policy, and coVirtualApDefaultVLAN verifies correct VLAN segmentation for that SSID's traffic.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured SSID name
- SSID broadcast status
- maximum users per virtual AP
- default VLAN assignment
- authentication mode/profile
- user accounting profile
