Description: Manages Virtual Service Community (VSC) profiles for per-SSID service policies on Colubris/HP platforms.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is COLUBRIS-VSC-MIB?
COLUBRIS-VSC-MIB is a Colubris Networks (later HP) enterprise MIB for managing Virtual Service Communities (VSC) - per-SSID service profiles - on Colubris/HP wireless LAN controllers and access points. It exposes a configuration table defining each VSC's SSID, access control mode, security/encryption settings, and authentication methods (802.1x, MAC authentication, HTML/captive-portal authentication). This is primarily a configuration-monitoring MIB for wireless service policy rather than a hardware-sensor one - an admin verifies that each SSID's security posture (encryption, authentication method) is correctly and consistently applied, and a misconfigured or disabled VSC would show up as clients failing to authenticate or connecting without expected encryption. It has no notable dependency on other MIBs beyond the base Colubris WLAN MIB family and standard SNMP conventions. It's deployed in Colubris/HP MSM wireless controller installations offering multiple SSIDs with differentiated access policies (e.g., guest vs. corporate). Engineers can download the COLUBRIS-VSC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-VSC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Colubris/HP MSM series wireless LAN controllers and access points
Monitoring Examples
An admin polls coVscConfigTable/coVscConfigEntry by coVscCfgIndex to read coVscCfgSSID, coVscCfgSecurity, and coVscCfgEncryption for each configured VSC, verifying that a "guest" SSID is properly locked down via coVscCfgAccessControlled. If coVscCfg8021xAuthentication or coVscCfgMACAuthentication is unexpectedly disabled on a corporate SSID, this MIB reveals the misconfiguration before it becomes a security exposure. coVscCfgHTMLAuthentication is checked to confirm captive-portal/guest login pages are enabled where expected.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-SSID security/encryption configuration
- authentication method (802.1x/MAC/HTML) enabled state
- access control status
- SSID/VSC naming
