Description: Manages HP Virtual Connect module hardware inventory, port mapping, and link status in BladeSystem enclosures.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPVCMODULE-MIB?

HPVCMODULE-MIB is a proprietary Hewlett-Packard MIB for the Virtual Connect (VC) Ethernet module product line used inside HP BladeSystem c-Class blade enclosures. Per its module description, it defines per-module objects describing an individual VC-Enet module's identity and role, independent of the module's role within its Virtual Connect domain. It exposes configuration/inventory data such as the domain name a module belongs to, its role (e.g. active/standby/primary), its enclosure role, and the domain's primary management address and address type. Its monitoring value is hardware and configuration status of the networking module itself: confirming a module's domain membership, role, and reachability, which is important for diagnosing blade-enclosure network failover or misconfiguration rather than exposing traffic/performance counters. It operates as one of a family of HP Virtual Connect MIBs describing domains, modules, and ports, and it is deployed specifically in environments running HP BladeSystem enclosures with Virtual Connect Ethernet modules for I/O virtualization. Engineers can download the HPVCMODULE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPVCMODULE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure
  • HP Virtual Connect Ethernet module

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll vcModuleDomainName and vcModuleRole to confirm which VC domain a given VC-Enet module belongs to and whether it is currently the active or standby/primary module, and check vcModuleEnclosureRole to verify its position within the enclosure. Combined with vcModuleDomainPrimaryAddress/vcModuleDomainPrimaryAddressType, this reveals whether the module can reach the domain's primary management address, which would flag a split-domain or failover condition if roles or addresses look wrong. The module also defines vcModuleMIBNotifications for fault/event traps related to module role changes.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VC domain membership
  • module role (active/standby)
  • enclosure role
  • domain primary management address
  • module identity
