Description: Manages Cisco Small Business physical sensor entity data including temperature and voltage readings.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCOSB-SENSORENTMIB?

CISCOSB-SENSORENTMIB is a Cisco Small Business private MIB that exposes physical entity sensor readings, such as temperature and voltage measurements, tied to entities in the standard entity-physical model. It provides a sensor table along with configurable minimum/maximum acceptable value thresholds and test/calibration values for each sensor. This is a direct hardware-health MIB: it is used to continuously monitor temperature and voltage sensors on a switch to detect overheating, undervoltage, or out-of-range conditions before they cause instability or damage. It is designed to work alongside the standard ENTITY-MIB (entPhysicalTable) since sensors are indexed relative to physical entities, and often alongside ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB concepts. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business switches in environments where thermal and power-rail monitoring matters, such as enclosed racks or outdoor cabinets. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-SENSORENTMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-SENSORENTMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Small Business switches

Monitoring Examples

A monitoring tool would poll rlEntPhySensorTable/rlEntPhySensorEntry for the current sensor reading and compare it against rlEnvPhySensorMinValue and rlEnvPhySensorMaxValue to detect when a temperature or voltage sensor exceeds its safe operating range. The rlEnvPhySensorTestValue can be used during diagnostics to validate that a sensor reading is being reported correctly against a known test input. A sustained reading above rlEnvPhySensorMaxValue on a temperature sensor is a leading indicator of a cooling fault or blocked airflow.

What Can Be Monitored

  • physical sensor current reading
  • sensor minimum/maximum thresholds
  • temperature status
  • voltage status
  • sensor test/calibration value
