Description: Manages SmartPorts macro configurations on Cisco Small Business switches for auto-configuring ports by device role.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-SMARTPORTS-MIB?
CISCOSB-SMARTPORTS-MIB manages the SmartPorts macro feature on Cisco Small Business switches, which lets administrators bundle a group of configuration commands into a named macro and apply it to a port, trunk, or global context based on the type of device connected. It maintains, per the module description, a database per interface (and globally) listing which macros - user-defined or pre-defined - have been applied, making it a configuration-management MIB focused on port-role automation rather than raw traffic statistics. For status monitoring, the per-interface applied-macro record is useful for auditing whether a port's configuration matches its intended role (e.g., IP phone, access point, switch uplink), helping detect configuration drift that could cause connectivity issues. It operates on top of standard interface indexing used across the Cisco Small Business switch MIB family. It is used in small-business network deployments where administrators standardize per-port settings without manually re-entering commands on each port. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-SMARTPORTS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-SMARTPORTS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator troubleshooting a misbehaving port would check the interface's applied-macro record to confirm whether a SmartPorts macro (for example, one tailored for an IP phone or access point) is currently applied, and compare it against the macro that should be in effect for that connected device type. If the recorded macro doesn't match the expected role, that mismatch itself points to a configuration error introduced during provisioning.
What Can Be Monitored
- applied SmartPort macro per interface
- macro type (user-defined vs pre-defined)
- global macro configuration state
