What Is CISCOSB-PORT-STATISTICS-MIB?

CISCOSB-PORT-STATISTICS-MIB is a Cisco Small Business (formerly Linksys/RLI "rl" prefix) enterprise MIB providing per-port traffic and error statistics on small-business switches. It exposes performance-counter data collected on a sampling basis per physical port, including named counter types, sample identifiers, and the time window over which each sample was collected. Its monitoring role is centered on interface/traffic performance rather than chassis hardware health: operators use it to track byte, packet, and error counters per port over configurable collection intervals to spot congestion, errors, or abnormal traffic on specific switch ports. No explicit dependency on other MIBs is stated, though it complements the standard IF-MIB interface counters with vendor-specific sampled statistics. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business (SG/SF series) managed switches in SMB network environments, where CISCOSB-PORT-STATISTICS-MIB SNMP monitoring gives administrators per-port visibility into traffic and error trends.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would enable specific ports via rlPortStatEnabledPorts, then poll rlPortStatSampleTable/rlPortStatSampleEntry keyed by rlPortStatSampleIfIndex and rlPortStatSampleStatSubType to read named counters via rlPortStatSampleCounterName and rlPortStatSampleStatID. Comparing rlPortStatSampleCollectionTime across samples reveals whether a port's error or discard counters are climbing over a given rlPortStatSampleCollectionInterval, indicating a failing cable or overloaded uplink. rlPortStatClearPorts allows resetting counters to re-baseline monitoring after a fix.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rlPortStatPOECumulativeEnergySaved OID:

Select a Cisco Small Business (SG/SF series) managed switch as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rlPortStatPOECumulativeEnergySaved into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports pOE cumulative energy savings per system due to time-range feature in Watt*Hour units. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in Watt*Hour), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
