Description: Manages Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) and RSPAN session configurations on Cisco Small Business switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-SPAN-MIB?
CISCOSB-SPAN-MIB is a Cisco Small Business private MIB that configures Switched Port Analyzer (SPAN) and Remote SPAN (RSPAN) mirroring sessions used for traffic capture and network analysis. It exposes destination-port tables (session ID, target interface, reflector/port type, remote VLAN ID) and source-port tables defining which traffic feeds into each mirroring session. This is primarily a configuration/diagnostic-feature MIB rather than a hardware-health MIB: administrators use it to verify that traffic-mirroring sessions are correctly wired up, which is essential when troubleshooting other network problems or feeding an IDS/packet-capture tool. It relies on standard interface indexing (ifIndex) shared with IF-MIB, and RSPAN sessions depend on VLAN configuration typically managed via a separate VLAN MIB. It is deployed on small-business switches whenever an administrator needs to capture live traffic for analysis without disrupting production ports. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-SPAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-SPAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll rlSpanDestinationTable/rlSpanDestinationEntry to confirm a given rlSpanDestinationSessionId is mapped to the correct rlSpanDestinationIfIndex and rlSpanDestinationPortType, and check rlSpanDestinationRowStatus to see whether the session is active. Cross-referencing rlSpanSourceTable/rlSpanSourceEntry by rlSpanSourceSessionId verifies which source ports or VLANs are actually being mirrored. If a packet-capture tool sees no traffic, checking that rlSpanDestinationRowStatus is active and the expected source ports are listed is the standard troubleshooting step this MIB supports.
What Can Be Monitored
- SPAN/RSPAN session status
- destination port/interface mapping
- source ports per session
- RSPAN remote VLAN ID
- session row status (active/inactive)
