Description: Covers multicast group membership through MGMD (IGMP/MLD) router functionality on Cisco Small Business equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCOSB-MGMD-ROUTER-MIB?
CISCOSB-MGMD-ROUTER-MIB is a Cisco Small Business private MIB for the Multicast Group Membership Discovery (MGMD) router function, i.e. IGMP/MLD multicast routing on SMB switches. It exposes per-interface extended statistics such as uptime, counts of IGMPv1/v2/v3 (and MLD) messages received, failed joins, invalid messages, and query messages sent. Its monitoring value is squarely performance/fault counters for multicast routing health—detecting failed joins, protocol version mismatches, or a flood of invalid messages that indicate multicast misconfiguration or a misbehaving host. It extends the standard IGMP/MLD multicast routing model (related to IETF's IGMP MIB) with Cisco-specific per-interface statistics. It is deployed on Cisco Small Business switches/routers acting as IGMP/MLD queriers in networks running IPTV or other multicast applications. Engineers can download the CISCOSB-MGMD-ROUTER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCOSB-MGMD-ROUTER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Small Business switch/router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll rlMgmdInterfaceExtTable/rlMgmdInterfaceExtEntry and read rlMgmdRouterInterfaceExtStatsUpTime alongside rlMgmdRouterInterfaceExtNumFailedJoins to see how long stats have accumulated and whether hosts are failing to join multicast groups. A rising rlMgmdRouterInterfaceExtNumInvalidMsgsRcvd count would flag malformed or unexpected IGMP/MLD traffic, while comparing rlMgmdRouterInterfaceExtNumIgmpV1Msgs versus V2/V3 counts helps identify legacy hosts still using older IGMP versions that could limit multicast efficiency.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-interface IGMP/MLD message counts
- failed multicast joins
- invalid messages received
- general/specific queries sent
- interface uptime for multicast stats
