Description: Manages Cisco WAN SRM (Service Resource Module) BERT (Bit Error Rate Test) for T1/E1 testing.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-WAN-SRM-BERT-MIB?

CISCO-WAN-SRM-BERT-MIB is a Cisco vendor-specific MIB for the MGX 8220/8850 WAN switching platforms that controls and reports Bit Error Rate Testing (BERT) performed via a Service Resource Module (SRM) on FRSM, AUSM, CESM, and VISM service modules. It exposes a workflow control object bertControl (acquire, configure, start, modify, delete) alongside test-parameter scalars bertSlotNumber, bertTestMedium (port vs. line), bertPattern (e.g., allZeros, QRSS, DDS patterns), bertLoopback/bertLoopbackOperation, and live results bertBitCount, bertBitErrorCount, bertErrorInjectCount, and bertStatus (e.g., bertInSync, bertOutOfSync, bertFailed). It also provides bertDDSSeekResultsTable, a circular buffer of the last 20 detected DDS in-band codes, and bertSupportedTestsTable describing which test media/modes/patterns each slot's service module supports. This MIB is useful for remotely running and monitoring T1/E1 line-quality diagnostics without console access. It depends on BASIS-MIB for the axisDiagnostics subtree and CISCOWAN-SMI for the ciscoWan enterprise root, and administrators can download the CISCO-WAN-SRM-BERT-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-SRM-BERT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MGX 8220/8850 WAN switches (FRSM, AUSM, CESM, VISM service modules)

Monitoring Examples

An operator sets bertSlotNumber, bertTestMedium, and bertPattern then bertControl to startBert to run a BERT test on a T1 line, and polls bertStatus and bertBitErrorCount; a bertStatus of bertOutOfSync or a rapidly climbing bertBitErrorCount relative to bertBitCount would indicate a faulty T1/E1 circuit or misconfigured loopback.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BERT control/workflow state and resource ownership
  • BERT status (in-sync, out-of-sync, failed)
  • bit count and bit error count
  • DDS seek results (detected line codes)
  • per-slot supported test capability masks
