Description: Exposes Finite State Machine stage status and progress for long-running configuration and provisioning operations across Cisco UCS managed objects

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FSM-MIB?

CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FSM-MIB is a Cisco UCS management-model MIB exposing Finite State Machine (FSM) stage status and progress for long-running configuration and provisioning operations across UCS managed objects. It reports operation-in-progress data -- object class name, current FSM state, and remote/converted endpoint references -- rather than static configuration. This MIB is directly useful for software/operational status monitoring: it lets administrators see whether an in-flight operation (such as firmware upgrade, service profile association, or hardware discovery) is progressing normally or has stalled in a given state. It underpins and is referenced by many other UCS MIBs (e.g., EXTPOL, SYSFILE) that track FSM lifecycle for their own operations. It is deployed within Cisco UCS Manager domains wherever asynchronous, multi-step operations need progress tracking. Engineers can download the CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FSM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-UNIFIED-COMPUTING-FSM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS blade and rack servers
  • Cisco UCS fabric interconnects
  • Cisco UCS chassis

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll cucsFsmStatusTable/cucsFsmStatusEntry, reading cucsFsmStatusState and cucsFsmStatusName to see the current stage of an in-progress operation on a given cucsFsmStatusObjectClassName (e.g., a server or chassis object). If cucsFsmStatusState remains unchanged across repeated polls beyond the expected duration, it indicates the operation is stuck (a common sign of a failed firmware update or service profile association). The cucsFsmStatusDescr field typically supplies a human-readable reason for the current stage, useful for diagnosing the stall.

What Can Be Monitored

  • in-progress operation FSM state
  • operation stage name and description
  • stalled or long-running provisioning tasks
  • associated managed object class
