Description: MIB for SONET/SDH service management on SmartOptics SiteLight equipment, extending RFC 2558 with section, line, and path performance data and overhead configuration

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is SL-SONET-MIB?

SL-SONET-MIB is a SmartOptics SiteLight proprietary MIB that extends the IETF SONET/SDH MIB (RFC 2558) with additional configuration and performance objects for SONET/SDH optical interfaces on SiteLight metro/optical transport equipment. It exposes configuration data (frame scrambling, DCC channel selection, overhead tunneling, compression) alongside performance and threshold data (signal-degrade and signal-failure thresholds, loss-of-pointer bitmasks, counter resets). Each SL-SONET-MIB OID such as slSonetConfigSdThreshold or slSonetConfigSfThreshold directly supports monitoring hardware/link status, since threshold-crossing on these objects and loss-of-pointer bitmask entries reveal optical transmission faults and degrading link quality on a SONET port. It explicitly builds on and extends RFC 2558, so standard SONET/SDH objects are expected to coexist with these vendor extensions. It is typically deployed on SmartOptics SiteLight optical transport/WDM equipment in metro and regional optical networks.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SL-SONET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • SmartOptics SiteLight optical transport equipment
  • SONET/SDH network elements (metro/regional optical transport)

Monitoring Examples

slSonetConfigTable/slSonetConfigEntry expose per-port settings such as slSonetConfigFrameScramble, slSonetConfigType, and slSonetConfigDccSelection; an admin would check slSonetConfigSdThreshold and slSonetConfigSfThreshold to confirm degrade/failure alarm thresholds are set correctly for a given circuit. slSonetPortThresholdTrapEnable controls whether threshold-crossing traps fire, and slSonetLopBitmask reports loss-of-pointer framing errors on the signal. slSonetResetAllCounters lets an operator clear accumulated performance counters after maintenance work, while slSonetOverheadTunneling and slSonetCompression show whether those link features are currently enabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • SONET signal degrade (SD) threshold
  • signal failure (SF) threshold
  • loss-of-pointer error bitmask
  • frame scramble configuration
  • DCC channel selection
  • overhead tunneling/compression state
  • threshold-crossing trap enablement
