What Is CISCO-MGX82XX-RPM-SUBIF-MIB?

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rpmPortTable entries (rpmPortSlotNum, rpmPortInterface, rpmPortSubInterface) to inventory which backplane sub-interfaces are configured on a given RPM card. rpmPortIpAddress and rpmPortSubNetMask reveal the IP addressing assigned to each sub-interface, useful for verifying against expected network design. rpmPortState and rpmPortRowStatus would show an unexpected down or notInService sub-interface, indicating a provisioning or connectivity problem on the RPM.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using rpmPortState OID:

Select a Cisco MGX 8200 WAN switch (Route Processor Module, legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type rpmPortState into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. This indicates the state of this sub-interface. notConfigured(1) : Sub-interface is not configured. active(2) : Sub-interface is in active state. failed(3) : Sub-interface is in failed state. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is anything other than 'active', since that indicates the condition this object reports has changed to one worth investigating. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
