What Is CISCO-MGX82XX-VIRTUAL-PORT-MIB?

CISCO-MGX82XX-VIRTUAL-PORT-MIB manages and reports on virtual ports configured on the PXM1 service module within Cisco MGX 8200-series multiservice WAN switches. It provides both configuration data (virtual interface state, queue memory, min/max cell rate, configured paths) and runtime statistics/counters for each virtual interface. This makes it directly useful for monitoring hardware/software operational status: vrtlIntrState indicates whether a virtual port is operationally up or down, and the counter table tracks cell-level traffic to reveal congestion or configuration cell-rate violations. It is part of the CISCO-MGX82XX-* MIB family and depends on the underlying PXM1 module and ATM interface conventions for virtual port identity. It is deployed on Cisco MGX 8220/8250 switches wherever PXM1 virtual ports are used to subdivide a physical ATM trunk into multiple logically-managed interfaces. Monitoring Examples

vrtlIntrConfigTable/vrtlIntrConfigEntry expose vrtlIntrState, vrtlIntrMinCellRate, and vrtlIntrMaxCellRate for each virtual interface (indexed by configVrtlIntrNum and vrtlIntrPortNum), letting an operator confirm a virtual port is enabled and correctly rate-limited. The companion vrtlIntrCounterTable/vrtlIntrCounterEntry (keyed by countVrtlIntrNum) provides cell counters that reveal whether traffic on a virtual port is approaching vrtlIntrMaxCellRate. vrtlIntrCurrConfigPaths shows the number of paths currently configured on the port, useful for detecting unexpected path additions/removals.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using vrtlIntrTotalCellCnt OID:

Select a Cisco MGX 8250/8220 WAN switch (PXM1 module, legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type vrtlIntrTotalCellCnt into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of cells (VC plus Qbin) that belong to this Virtual Interface. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
