Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment

Description: Provides management objects for the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) on Cisco UCS/Firepower servers, including IPMI-level status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-FIREPOWER-BMC-MIB?

CISCO-FIREPOWER-BMC-MIB models the Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) of Cisco UCS/Firepower blade and rack servers, providing IPMI-level visibility into server hardware independent of the host operating system. It exposes objects tied to the System Event Log (SEL), including counters and collection-interval settings tracked per hardware equipment instance. This MIB is explicitly about monitoring low-level hardware status: BMC/IPMI SEL counters are the mechanism by which faults such as power supply failures, fan issues, or memory errors on the physical server are surfaced to management software. It is part of the broader Cisco UCS/Firepower management information model and shares DN/RN addressing with related Firepower MIBs, layering on top of standard IPMI concepts. It is deployed on Cisco Firepower/UCS servers and chassis where out-of-band hardware health monitoring via the BMC is required. Engineers can download the CISCO-FIREPOWER-BMC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-FIREPOWER-BMC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Firepower/UCS servers (BMC/IPMI)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cfprBmcSELCounterTable, keyed by cfprBmcSELCounterInstanceId and associated cfprBmcSELCounterEqptClassId/cfprBmcSELCounterEqptInstId, reading cfprBmcSELCounterBitmask and the counter value collected at cfprBmcSELCounterCollInterval to track how many hardware events (e.g., sensor threshold crossings) a given piece of equipment has logged. A sharp increase in SEL counter values for a particular equipment instance would point to a developing hardware fault such as a failing power supply or overheating component.

What Can Be Monitored

  • System Event Log counters
  • event bitmask categories
  • collection interval
  • associated equipment class/instance
