What Is CISCO-ITP-XUA-MIB?

The CISCO-ITP-XUA-MIB manages SIGTRAN protocol adaptation layers, M3UA (MTP3 User Adaptation) and SUA (SCCP User Adaptation), on Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP) nodes that carry SS7 signaling over IP networks. It exposes configuration and status data for xUA instances, signaling gateway management, Application Server Processes (ASPs), and Application Servers, including port/protocol settings and administrative shutdown state. Network operators use it to monitor the software/protocol-stack health of SS7-over-IP associations, tracking active ASP counts, instance configuration change timestamps, and row status to detect failed or administratively down associations that would disrupt SS7 message transfer. It depends on ITU-T Q.700/Q.701 SS7 standards and IETF SIGTRAN RFCs for M3UA/SUA as its underlying protocol basis. It is deployed in telecom/carrier networks using Cisco ITP as a signaling gateway bridging TDM SS7 to IP-based SIGTRAN transport. Engineers can download the CISCO-ITP-XUA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

cItpXuaInstTable/cItpXuaInstTableEntry expose per-instance objects like cItpXuaInstPort, cItpXuaInstProtocol, and cItpXuaInstShut, letting an admin confirm an M3UA instance is running on the expected port and not administratively shut down. cItpXuaInstActiveASPs shows how many Application Server Processes are currently active for that instance, a drop indicating ASP failover or link loss. cItpXuaInstConfigLastChanged and cItpXuaAspConfigLastChanged timestamps help correlate configuration changes with subsequent state-change notifications.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cItpXuaAspPktsFromAsp OID:

Select a Cisco IP Transfer Point (ITP) SS7 signaling gateway (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cItpXuaAspPktsFromAsp into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of MSUs received from this ASP. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in MSUs), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
