What Is INTEL-LAN-ADAPTERS-MIB?

INTEL-LAN-ADAPTERS-MIB is an Intel-specific MIB for managing and monitoring Intel Ethernet LAN adapters (NICs) via SNMP, part of Intel's private enterprise MIB tree for its legacy network-adapter management agent. It exposes agent/adapter identity information (company, description, operatingSystem, mibVersionSupported, agentExtensionVersion) and a generic adapter attribute table listing each installed adapter's index, name, and type. It supports software/hardware status monitoring at the network-interface layer — the status object and genericAdaptersAttrTable let an operator confirm which adapters the host recognizes, cross-check agent and MIB version compatibility (mibVersion1-4-3, agentExtensionVersion), and detect if the host's adapter management agent is outdated or unresponsive relative to the installed hardware. It predates and stands independent of later IETF standards but conceptually parallels the standard IF-MIB for interface identification; it is primarily a legacy vendor-specific host-agent MIB. It's deployed on servers and workstations equipped with Intel Ethernet adapters, historically polled by NMS tools using Intel's SNMP agent, with INTEL-LAN-ADAPTERS-MIB SNMP monitoring providing adapter inventory and status checks.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-LAN-ADAPTERS-MIB. How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using adapterRxPackets OID:

Select a Server/workstation host with Intel Ethernet LAN adapter (s) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type adapterRxPackets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of packets received. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
