Description: Manages loopback interface configuration and operational state on Cisco devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IF-LOOPBACK-MIB?

CISCO-IF-LOOPBACK-MIB is a Cisco Systems proprietary MIB configuring loopback on serial-family interfaces (DS1/E1, DS3/E3, DS0, etc.) in the standard ifTable. Its configuration table, keyed by interface, records the requested loopback type, its status, and the far-end loopback device/code used to signal a remote loopback request. As a configuration/diagnostic MIB it lets an administrator trigger a local or remote loopback for circuit testing and confirm the loopback is actually active before interpreting test results. It is deployed on Cisco routers with DS1/DS3/DS0 serial interfaces. Engineers can download the CISCO-IF-LOOPBACK-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IF-LOOPBACK-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco routers (DS1/DS3/DS0 serial interfaces)

Monitoring Examples

A technician sets cifLLoopback to trigger a far-end loopback on a suspect DS1 circuit, then checks cifLLoopbackStatus to confirm the loopback actually engaged before running a bit-error-rate test.
