Description: Declares agent capability for the IETF NAT MIB on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IETF-NAT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-IETF-NAT-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing exactly which objects of the standards-based CISCO-IETF-NAT-MIB a given Cisco IOS 12.2T release actually supports. It lists supported groups (cnatConfigGroup, cnatBindGroup, cnatStatisticsGroup) while marking numerous configuration-table objects (e.g. cnatConfServiceType, cnatConfTimeoutTcpIdle, cnatConfStaticAddrMapName, cnatConfDynAddrMapName) and session-table objects (cnatSessionBindId, cnatSessionOrigPrivateAddr, cnatSessionTransPublicPort) as not-implemented, and hard-codes several enumerations such as cnatAddrBindDirection to biDirectional(2). This tells a management station which parts of the NAT MIB it can actually poll or configure against this platform/release, preventing failed SET/GET operations during NAT monitoring or provisioning. It depends entirely on the underlying CISCO-IETF-NAT-MIB it profiles and on the CISCO-SMI capability framework. It is deployed conceptually alongside Cisco IOS 12.2T routers performing NAT, and engineers consult the CISCO-IETF-NAT-CAPABILITY MIB to confirm per-release NAT object support before automating SNMP-based NAT audits.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-NAT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco IOS 12.2T routers (capabilities/profile MIB, not a standalone managed-object MIB)

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks the CISCO-IETF-NAT-CAPABILITY statement to confirm cnatInterfaceRealm and cnatAddrBindDirection are supported as read-only on a given IOS 12.2T box before polling cnatAddrBindTable; attempting a SET against cnatConfStaticAddrMapStatus, which this module marks not-implemented, would fail rather than actually create a static NAT mapping.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NAT config/bind/statistics group support
  • static and dynamic address-map object variations
  • NAT session table object support
  • interface realm and storage-type access restrictions
  • hard-coded enumeration values per release
