Category: Cisco Devices, Hardware and Environment

Description: Defines capability and feature-set objects for Cisco UCS/Firepower platform components including supported hardware configurations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-FIREPOWER-CAPABILITY-MIB?

CISCO-FIREPOWER-CAPABILITY-MIB is part of Cisco's UCS/Firepower chassis management information model (derived from the UCS Manager XML data model exposed via SNMP), covering the CAPABILITY package that catalogues supported hardware and firmware feature sets for chassis components. It exposes a capability catalogue table describing what configurations a given component supports, along with finite-state-machine (FSM) tracking objects that record the progress, previous state, and any remote-invocation error codes/descriptions for capability-related background tasks. Its monitoring value is mainly about software/task status: administrators can watch FSM progress and error objects to see whether a capability-catalogue update or discovery task is progressing normally or has stalled/failed with a specific error code, plus file-parsing failure counters. It is tightly coupled to the broader Cisco Firepower/UCS MIB family (DN/RN distinguished-name addressing shared across all CISCO-FIREPOWER-*-MIB modules). It is deployed on Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnects and Firepower 9300-series chassis where the capability catalogue determines which hardware/firmware combinations are supported. Engineers can download the CISCO-FIREPOWER-CAPABILITY-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-FIREPOWER-CAPABILITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect
  • Cisco Firepower 9300 chassis

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cfprCapabilityCatalogueTable/cfprCapabilityCatalogueEntry, keyed by cfprCapabilityCatalogueInstanceId and identified by its distinguished name cfprCapabilityCatalogueDn, and check cfprCapabilityCatalogueFilesParsed against cfprCapabilityCatalogueFileParseFailures to confirm the capability catalogue loaded cleanly. If cfprCapabilityCatalogueFsmProgr shows a stalled percentage and cfprCapabilityCatalogueFsmRmtInvErrCode is non-zero, cfprCapabilityCatalogueFsmRmtInvErrDescr gives the human-readable reason a catalogue update failed. This is a management-plane object model rather than a live traffic-counter MIB.

What Can Be Monitored

  • capability catalogue files parsed vs parse failures
  • capability update FSM progress
  • FSM previous state
  • remote invocation error code/description
