Category: Cisco Devices, Device Management
Description: Provides management objects for the Cisco Elastic Services Controller (ESC) NFV orchestration platform, including service lifecycle and VNF management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-ESC-MIB?
CISCO-ESC-MIB provides management objects for the Cisco Elastic Services Controller (ESC), a software platform used to orchestrate the lifecycle of Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) in NFV deployments. It exposes status codes and status messages describing the operational state of the ESC application and its managed VNF Manager (vnfm) component, along with a notification group for raising alerts on state changes. Its monitoring value is centered on software/service health rather than physical hardware: it lets an operator track whether the ESC control software and VNF lifecycle manager are running normally, degraded, or in an error state, and receive traps when that state changes. As an orchestration-layer MIB, it depends on the broader NFV/VNFM ecosystem it manages and typically works alongside other Cisco virtualization and VNF-specific MIBs. It is deployed in NFV data centers or telco cloud environments running Cisco ESC as a VM or container to automate deployment, scaling, and healing of virtualized network functions. Engineers can download the CISCO-ESC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-ESC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Elastic Services Controller (ESC) NFV orchestration software running on virtualization/telco cloud hosts
Monitoring Examples
A cloud operations dashboard would poll escStatusCode and escStatusMessage under escMIBObjects to determine whether the ESC service itself is healthy, and subscribe to notifications under escNotifs to be alerted immediately if the VNF Manager transitions to a failed or degraded state. Since the vnfm object group represents the VNF Manager subsystem, an admin monitoring VNF lifecycle events, such as a failed auto-scale or auto-heal action, would correlate escStatusMessage text with orchestration logs to diagnose why a virtual network function failed to instantiate or recover.
What Can Be Monitored
- ESC service status code
- ESC status message/description
- VNF Manager (vnfm) health
- orchestration state-change notifications
