Description: HP baseline SNMP MIB defining foundational management objects shared across HP networking product families.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HP-BASE-MIB?
HP-BASE-MIB is a foundational HP enterprise SNMP module originally written for the HP ProCurve 700 series of network switches and routers, establishing the common object identifier tree and shared definitions that other HP-specific MIBs import and extend. Because it is a base/root module, it does not itself expose large volumes of runtime counters; instead it supplies the scaffolding used by dependent MIBs to describe interfaces, system identity, and configuration objects. Its practical monitoring value is indirect: it enables the hardware and software status data reported by companion ProCurve MIBs (link status, device identity, software version) to be organized under a consistent HP enterprise numbering scheme. As a base module it is a hard dependency for essentially all other HP ProCurve-specific MIBs in this product family, so it must load correctly before those MIBs' objects can resolve. It is found in legacy HP ProCurve managed switch/router deployments in enterprise wired LANs. Engineers can download the HP-BASE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-BASE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP ProCurve 700 series switch/router
Monitoring Examples
Since HP-BASE-MIB defines few standalone objects, an admin typically doesn't poll it directly but relies on it loading correctly so that dependent ProCurve MIBs resolve their object identifiers under the HP enterprise subtree. A failure to load HP-BASE-MIB in a MIB browser or NMS manifests as unresolved OIDs when walking any ProCurve 700-series-specific table, signaling a missing base dependency rather than a device fault.
What Can Be Monitored
- base OID tree resolution for dependent HP MIBs
- shared textual conventions
- availability of foundational objects other MIBs depend on
