Description: Manages the Cisco 802.11 Inter-Access Point Protocol (IAPP) for wireless client roaming, tracking context transfers and handoff events.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DDP-IAPP-MIB?

CISCO-DDP-IAPP-MIB manages Cisco's implementation of the Inter-Access Point Protocol (IAPP), a Cisco-proprietary Data Delivery Protocol used by 802.11 wireless LAN access points, workgroup bridges, and repeaters to support client roaming, association management, and diagnostic communication between APs. It exposes multicast addressing and port configuration for the IAPP protocol channel, along with rogue access point detection settings and notification state, including the MAC address of the last detected rogue AP. Its monitoring emphasis is on wireless security/fault detection rather than hardware sensors: administrators use the rogue-AP notification objects to be alerted when an unauthorized access point is detected on the wireless network, a key wireless security concern. It is specific to Cisco's 802.11 wireless infrastructure and is layered on IEEE 802.11 concepts, functioning alongside other Cisco wireless MIBs handling AP and client association. The CISCO-DDP-IAPP-MIB MIB is deployed on Cisco wireless access points and bridges participating in IAPP-based roaming domains.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DDP-IAPP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco 802.11 wireless access point, workgroup bridge, or repeater

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would enable cDdpIappRogueApNotifEnabled and configure the trap receiver to watch ciscoDdpIappMIBNotifications, then check cDdpIappLastRogueApMacAddr after a notification arrives to identify the offending device's MAC address. Confirming cDdpIappMcastIpAddr and cDdpIappPort match the expected IAPP multicast group and port across all APs in cDdpIappGlobalConfig would rule out a misconfigured AP failing to participate correctly in the roaming/rogue-detection multicast channel.

What Can Be Monitored

  • rogue access point detection/notification
  • last detected rogue AP MAC address
  • IAPP multicast address and port configuration
  • rogue AP notification enablement
