Description: Provides Cisco-specific extensions for DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) interface management on Cisco CMTS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DSG-IF-EXT-MIB?

CISCO-DSG-IF-EXT-MIB extends the ITU-T DSG-IF-MIB (J.128) standard to add Cisco-specific management objects for DOCSIS Set-top Gateway (DSG) functionality on Cisco CMTS cable platforms. It exposes configuration data for DSG classifiers (matching by source/destination hostname) and downstream tunnel settings, including the ability to enable or disable DSG delivery on a given downstream. It is primarily a configuration MIB used to verify that out-of-band messaging tunnels to cable set-top boxes are correctly provisioned rather than a hardware-health MIB, though misconfiguration here directly affects whether set-tops receive OOB signaling. It has a clear and notable dependency on the standard DSG-IF-MIB (ITU-T J.128), which it supplements with Cisco-specific classifier and downstream objects. It is deployed on Cisco Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) platforms serving DOCSIS Set-top Gateway tunnels to cable set-top boxes. Engineers can download the CISCO-DSG-IF-EXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DSG-IF-EXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would walk cdsgIfExtClassifierTable/cdsgIfExtClassifierEntry to verify cdsgIfExtClassSrcHostName and cdsgIfExtClassDestHostName classifiers are correctly matching intended traffic, and check cdsgIfExtDownstreamTable/cdsgIfExtDownstreamEntry's cdsgIfExtDownDsgDisable flag per downstream. A downstream unexpectedly showing cdsgIfExtDownDsgDisable set to true would explain why set-top boxes on that downstream are not receiving DSG tunnel messages.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DSG classifier source/destination hostnames
  • per-downstream DSG enable/disable state
  • DSG tunnel configuration
