What Is CISCO-DOT11-ANTENNA-MIB?
CISCO-DOT11-ANTENNA-MIB manages 802.11 antenna configuration on Cisco wireless access points and wireless bridges, providing the NMS with information about connected antennas so it can calculate recommended radio settings for optimal coverage and throughput. The data it exposes is primarily hardware configuration: whether antenna gain has been explicitly configured and the resultant gain value used in RF planning calculations. As a hardware-configuration MIB it lets an administrator verify the correct antenna type and gain are recognized by the access point, since an incorrect or unconfigured gain value can lead to poor coverage planning or regulatory transmit-power violations. It is a Cisco proprietary extension built for Cisco's wireless (Aironet/wireless LAN) product line and works alongside the broader 802.11 MIB objects for radio configuration. It is typically deployed on enterprise Cisco wireless access points and bridges where external or high-gain antennas are attached and coverage/throughput planning is important. Engineers can download the CISCO-DOT11-ANTENNA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DOT11-ANTENNA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco Aironet wireless access point or wireless bridge
Monitoring Examples
An administrator walks cDot11AntennaTable / cDot11AntennaEntry per radio interface, checking cDot11AntennaIsGainConfigured to see whether the AP has an explicit gain value versus a default assumption. Reading cDot11AntennaResultantGain reveals the effective gain the AP is using for its RF calculations, and a mismatch against the physically installed antenna's rated gain would produce inaccurate coverage predictions or transmit-power settings out of regulatory compliance. This check is typically done after installing a new high-gain external antenna to confirm the AP's configuration matches the deployed hardware.
What Can Be Monitored
- antenna gain configuration status
- resultant antenna gain value
