Category: Cisco Devices, Routing Protocols, SNMP Framework

Description: Declares SNMP agent capability statements for the CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB implementation on Cisco platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB-CAPABILITY?

This is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module that documents which specific objects, groups, and variations of the separate CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB a given Cisco platform's SNMP agent actually implements, rather than defining or exposing any device data itself. As a capabilities statement, it does not expose runtime categories of data like interfaces, environment, or performance counters; it exists purely to let management applications programmatically determine feature/object support before attempting to poll the real CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB. Consequently it has no bearing on monitoring hardware or software status directly; its only function is to declare implementation conformance, which multicast-fabric objects are supported and with what access, for the referenced MIB. It is entirely dependent on and meaningless without the CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB it describes, which is the module that actually defines Fibre Channel/storage-fabric multicast objects. It would be consulted by NMS/EMS tooling during MIB compatibility checks on Cisco MDS/Nexus fabric switches rather than polled for operational data. Engineers can download the CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco MDS/Nexus storage fabric switch

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES module with no runtime data objects, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; it contains only capability, group, and variation statements referencing the OIDs defined in CISCO-FABRIC-MCAST-MIB. A management application would parse it once, offline, to learn which multicast-fabric objects a given Cisco device supports, rather than polling it as part of ongoing monitoring.
