What Is CISCO-CDMA-PDSN-MIB?

CISCO-CDMA-PDSN-MIB is a Cisco Systems proprietary MIB managing the PDSN (Packet Data Serving Node) function in a CDMA2000 mobile network, which acts as a foreign agent linking the radio access network to the core data network over the A10/A11 interface. Its objects cover current/max-allowed session and PCF (Packet Control Function) counts, Simple-IP/Mobile-IP/Proxy-Mobile-IP flow totals, session-failure total, serving PDSN hostname, authentication timer, max fail-history, notification enables (session-max, PCF-max, format-error, registration-request-failed), system version/status, active/dormant/established/released session counts, session-recovery enable, and PPPoGRE/HDLCoGRE session totals. As a performance/status MIB it lets a mobile operator watch active/dormant session counts and failure totals to gauge PDSN capacity and health. It is deployed on Cisco PDSN mobile-core gateway platforms. Engineers can download the CISCO-CDMA-PDSN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cCdmaRpRegReceivedReqs OID:

Select a Cisco PDSN mobile-core gateway platform (CDMA2000, legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cCdmaRpRegReceivedReqs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the total number of A11 Registration Requests received since the system was last restarted. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
