Description: An AGENT-CAPABILITIES module that describes the supported capabilities of the CISCO-CDP-MIB across various Cisco platforms.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring CISCO-CDP-CAPABILITY with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is CISCO-CDP-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-CDP-CAPABILITY is a Cisco AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing which features of the CISCO-CDP-MIB (Cisco Discovery Protocol MIB) are implemented across various Cisco platforms and software releases. As a conformance module it defines no runtime data objects, counters, or traps itself; it only documents supported groups and variations for agent capability negotiation. It has no direct role in reporting uptime, temperature, CPU load, or any other operational status. Its whole purpose is dependency-linked to CISCO-CDP-MIB, which it describes compliance/capability details for. It is used by MIB compilers and NMS platforms to determine which CDP MIB features a specific device/software combination supports, rather than being polled in production monitoring. Engineers can download the CISCO-CDP-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CDP-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco networking device (router/switch running CDP)
  • Cisco IOS devices (CDP feature)

Monitoring Examples

This module has no runtime data objects, tables, or notifications, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; it exists only to declare which CISCO-CDP-MIB object groups are implemented by particular Cisco device/software combinations for NMS/MIB-compiler use.
