Category: DOCSIS and Cable

Description: Manages subscriber bandwidth metering and usage reporting on Cisco CMTS cable systems.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-CABLE-METERING-MIB?

CISCO-CABLE-METERING-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB implementing DOCSIS Usage-Based Metering (Subscriber Account Management Interface Specification, SAMIS) on Cisco CMTS platforms. It exposes configuration for collection servers that receive usage/billing files, including collection type, filesystem, destination IP address and port, interval, retry count, and secure transport settings. Its monitoring value is centered on the software/service status of the metering export process: verifying collection jobs are configured, reaching their destination server, and running on schedule, which is analogous to monitoring a background reporting job or service rather than physical hardware. It depends on DOCSIS OSSI/SAMIS specifications for its data model and works alongside standard CMTS interface MIBs. It is deployed by cable operators needing subscriber usage-based billing on their DOCSIS access network, typically after obtaining a CISCO-CABLE-METERING-MIB download to load into their CMTS management platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-CABLE-METERING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco CMTS (Cable Modem Termination System)

Monitoring Examples

An operator would inspect ccmtrCollectionTable, keyed by ccmtrCollectionID, checking ccmtrCollectionIpAddress, ccmtrCollectionPort, and ccmtrCollectionRowStatus to confirm a usage-metering collection job is active and pointed at the correct billing mediation server. Comparing ccmtrCollectionInterval and ccmtrCollectionRetries against expected schedules helps detect a stalled or failing metering file upload. A collection entry stuck in a non-active row status indicates the CMTS is not currently exporting subscriber usage data for billing.

What Can Be Monitored

  • metering collection job status
  • collection server address and port
  • collection interval and retry count
  • secure transport setting
  • row status of collection entries
