What Is CADANT-IPDR-MIB?

CADANT-IPDR-MIB is an ARRIS (Cadant) private MIB for the C4 CMTS covering IP Detail Record (IPDR) export, the DOCSIS-standard mechanism cable operators use to collect and export subscriber usage/billing data. It exposes configuration objects for enabling IPDR export, setting query and streaming ports, tuning the data-acknowledgment window/timeout and keep-alive interval, and defining the collector(s) that receive exported records, along with what data types are included. This is primarily a software/protocol-configuration monitoring module -- an operator checks it to confirm IPDR export is enabled and correctly pointed at the right collector, since a misconfigured or failed IPDR session means usage/billing data is not being collected, a business-critical rather than hardware issue. It aligns with the CableLabs IPDR/SP (Streaming Protocol) specification used across DOCSIS CMTS platforms rather than a specific IETF MIB. It is typically deployed by cable operators running Cadant C4 CMTS platforms that need to export subscriber usage data to an IPDR collector for billing/reporting systems. Engineers can download the CADANT-IPDR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An operator would check cadIpdrExportEnabled and cadIpdrExportMode to confirm IPDR export is active and in the expected mode, then verify cadIpdrCollectorTable/cadIpdrCollectorEntry lists the correct collector destination(s). Monitoring cadIpdrDataAckTimeout and cadIpdrKeepAliveInterval against the actual session behavior can reveal a collector connection that is timing out or dropping, while cadIpdrSessionId helps correlate a specific export session across restarts. If cadIpdrExportEnabled shows enabled but no session ID is present, that would indicate the CMTS is failing to establish its IPDR export connection to the collector.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using cadIpdrCollectorOutIntRecs OID:

Select an ARRIS/Cadant C4/E6000 CMT (cable modem termination system) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type cadIpdrCollectorOutIntRecs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of interim data records exported to this collector. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
